The CEO profile: who's doing them and where to pitch (hint: not just NYT Corner Office)
Plus, Axios gets into awards territory, WSJ solicits sources, + too many media moves to count

Ever since David Gelles stopped penning ‘Corner Office’ for the NY Times, it feels like CEO profile opportunities are far and few between. We gasped when we saw The Real Real’s CEO profiled for a ‘Corner Office’ feature a few weeks ago in an article by retail reporter Jordyn Holman. Shout out to PR at The Real Real btw - what a hit!
While ‘Corner Office’ profiles are far and few between, if you have a big dog CEO with some timely news, try your relevant beat reporter and point out that you have seen some of their colleagues do this pieces.
On the topic of CEO profiles, here’s a few that are on our radar:
WSJ’s “My Monday Morning” - this is a series that features the routines, habits, and perspectives of movers and shakers - whether it’s an influencer like the Ms. Get Ready With Me Alix Earle or CEOs from Uber and Levi’s.
TIME’s ‘The Leadership Brief” - these Q&As are with the “world's most influential leaders in business and tech.” Interviews are written by beat reporters related to the interview subject’s field, so research before pitching.
Motley Fool’s “Investors Like Me” - this series highlights the stories of successful investors from underrepresented backgrounds (women, LGBTQ+, first-generation Americans, etc). Check out examples of past interviewees such as the founder of Ellevest and the president of the Charles Schwab Foundation.
Morning Brew’s “Coworking” Series - we’ve shared this one before, but we have a lot of new subscribers since then! By simply filling out this form, your exec will be in the running for a newsletter feature. The great thing about this one is that it’s not just for CEOs (though one of us did get a CEO featured this week). Anyone with an interesting title and background can qualify.
Next up, some other items that don’t fit into the rigid societal constructs that we’ve created for ourselves within this newsletter. Sorry, too existential?
We’ve noticed more “source forms” that top tier media seem to be posting about. The gist is, you fill out a form and the reporter will refer to their own database of sources when they’re working on a story. Genius! WSJ’s Ann-Marie Alcántara covers internet culture, writing about everything from ChatGPT one to bad behavior at concerts. Here’s her Google Form for you!
