Now into it. If you’re struggling to land a CEO or executive profile, then don’t be too hard on yourself because they largely don’t exist anymore.

With that in mind, we love to ask our spokespeople if their work started as a side hustle. And listen, we’re generous with what constitutes a “side hustle.” This could mean tinkering on an app at night while working full time as a software engineer. And if there’s no dice at an exec level, we turn to employees with creative stories that support the businesses’ narrative.

Why are we so eager to make the connection? Because there happen to be many publications that write columns focused fully on side hustlers. Here are four:

CNBC Make It’s Side Hustle Column: With a few exceptions, this one will usually be a better fit for an employee, not a CEO. Scan the article titles and you’ll quickly get an idea of how to pitch. They love ages and salaries, so you’ll have a better shot if that makes it into your subject line. They’re also eager to include lessons that can be broadly applicable to other folks launching side hustles, whether it’s the tools they use or the leadership tips they employ.
