While everyone heads to Europe, you can still pitch op-eds
And a few other ways to live the dream and keep busy during the quietest PR time of year
We’re entering PR’s slow period. If you’re not currently reading this with a marg on the beach, chances you’re daydreaming of beach views with a marg in hand. When news is slow it’s a great time to lean into contributed content. With that said, we wanted to share some intel from a few publications on how to get your piece published:
Business Insider is looking for op-eds that offer unique, thoughtful analysis, engaging commentary, and authoritative advice. If you're a high-profile business leader, distinguished expert, or influential thought leader looking to place an article in Insider's business section, contact Jennifer Eum at jeum@insider.com.
On the other hand, personal essays, as-told-to stories, analysis, trend stories, visual features, experientials, and explainers for Insider's business section, go to Lauryn Haas at lhaas@insider.com or Manseen Logan at mlogan@insider.com.
Pitching an OpEd to the Information? Jillian Goodman is no longer there, so pitch Oped ideas to Scott Thurm scott@theinformation.com + opinion@theinformation.com. Note: The Information doesn’t want full OpEd submissions, see here before you pitch: The Information Op-Ed info
Remember that Fast Company has clear rules for Work Life posts. How to submit contributed stories to Fast Company and tips on getting published. Try Lydia Dishman (lydiadishman@gmail.com) or Julia Herbst (JHerbst@fastcompany.com) Note: search FastCo before you write the piece as they won’t publish any Op-Eds on similar topics and are VERY strict about this rule so have their Work Life section open while brainstorming.
TechCrunch+ is always looking for founders, startup execs, and investors to tell incredibly tactical stories with actionable advice based on personal experience – and when we say actionable, we mean it. The stories we’ve placed in TechCrunch have detailed step-by-step advice or examples, that includes screenshots, graphs, etc. on how to build or grow a startup. We’re regularly told “too general” by our go-to contact Walter Thompson (walter.thompson@techcrunch.com) so take a close look before reaching out with a post.
Awards, lists, and recognitions
Business Insider Top VCs in The Creator Economy: Nominations are now open and rather straightforward. They “will take into consideration factors like the success of the startups in their portfolios and their relative focus (and impact) on the creator economy as a whole.” Please submit your ideas through this form by July 5.
