Local PR associations often host small events that can help you get an "in" with a journalist, make an initial connection or provide an easy, logical touch point for an initial introductory email. They are usually free/inexperience for both members and non-members.

These small, usually intimate gatherings (especially the ones in person) lend themselves to more honest, transparent insight from journalists. At one of these, I learned that a New York Times reporter actually preferred being pitched on a Friday. Little nuggets like these, direct from journalists, are hard to come by.

Per your request in the latest newsletter - A freelancer that is always responsive if you pitch them a story about XX.

My response:

Liz Brody freelancer with Entrepreneur is always responsive when I pitch her a story on an up-and-coming, yet established founder solving a not so obvious problem who is willing to share the inside story on building their business and solving hard problems. Something that other entrepreneurs can gain wisdom from and make parallels to their business. My approach is typically meet and greet with Liz first - see what resonates with her about the business - pitch her hard after that with a concrete angle I know she will like after the meet and greet and equip her well to pitch a story to her editor. Here is an example of a story I worked with her on recently: https://www.entrepreneur.com/starting-a-business/this-startup-is-reinventing-the-yellow-school-bus-heres/458411
